The term covers a wide variety of individuals.  The concept can be used rather broadly.  An example is an alcoholic individual with depression.  Dual Diagnosis is not limited to two conditions.  Many symptoms overlap. This is not unusual. Many clients come in thinking they are dual diagnosis. After getting time sober they realize their disorder was alcohol or drug induced. We also find some clients are true dual diagnosis. We can help in both cases. We can help everyone find inner peace and sobriety.

There is a fine line applying dual diagnosis treatment.  Those whose mental disorders subside with sobriety are not dual diagnosis.  These patients respond to standard treatment.  Either case is readily accepted here.  We feel everyone deserves treatment. We can help.

Sometimes the mental problem occurs first. This can lead people to use alcohol or drugs that make them feel better. Sometimes the substance abuse occurs first. Over time this can lead to mental problems.  To get better one must treat both conditions. The person must abstain from any substance. This is called detoxification.  Then the bulk of treatment may begin.  Here patients learn about their conditions and how to work on them.  We try to change behavior.  Doing so sets the stage for success.
