Insurance for Drug and Alcohol Treatment

Insurance helps families overcome one of the greatest hurdles of entering substance abuse treatment. This hurdle is the cost of the treatment. California Recovery offers the lowest rates for a 90-day program in Orange County. Recently we have been able to reduce our costs even further by accepting clients who possess insurance. Taking insurance has allowed us to help people lower treatment costs by 10-60% depending on the program and length of stay.

Insurance will cover the first 90-days of treatment which can include detox if the client has not completed one already. Most insurance providers will only approve a 3-10 day stay to begin with but they will continue to approve more time. Our Clinical Director will help speak to the insurance company to extent the period of coverage as long as necessary to help the client recover.

Insurance will not, however, cover sober living costs. The great part about our program is that we teach our clients job skills. These include how to find a job, how to give a good interview and how to suit up and show up on time. Many local employers also come to us and ask for referrals to send to them. They come to us because they know that people coming from our facility are excellent employees. This means that by the time a client has completed the program that the insurance is willing to cover, they have become self-supporting. This opens possibilities for the client. They can move into sober living or move back home and pay their own living expenses. This comes as a breath of fresh air for families who have  been supporting a loved one during their drug abuse.

An alternative option to billing insurance is paying for treatment up front and then billing the insurance company. This method is not as effective as the insurance provider will request large amounts of information and deny the claim so that numerous appeals are necessary. This process can work if you have the time and dedication to work on the appeals for a year or more. You generally will not see money before a year. The amount that insurance will pay in these cases runs from 60-80% of the total billed amount.
