Our Recovery Programs’ Mission Statement

California Recovery Programs’

Mission Statement

The California Recovery Programs’ Mission Statement has not changed since our

doors opened 15 years ago.

The California Recovery Programs were founded to provide a home and program of recovery for women and men who suffer from the disease of alcoholism.

We offer a complete continuum of care. We begin with inpatient Detox, ongoing Residential Treatment and Sober Living.

For a very low-cost, the California Recovery Programs provide food, shelter, and an ever-growing fellowship.

Our Primary purpose is to provide a safe haven for residents to begin their journey for long-term sobriety.

Our methods are based on the principles of a 12-step program.

In addition to our large alumni association, we have many unpaid volunteers who give back on a daily basis.

The History of the California Recovery Programs

The California Recovery Programs started as a shelter. We helped give women with no money or place to go a safe place to get and stay sober. Our recovery programs are based on one alcoholic helping another.

15 years ago, the California Recovery ProgramsRecovery Programs Image started with one house and 12 women. They had no place to go when they completed their program. So we opened a second and third house. They now had a safe place to continue building their foundation. This is exactly how it happened. By the year 2000 more than 1500 women had come through our doors. We provided 25 beds and a 90 day program.

Around the same time, men we knew began to ask for help. We decided to help. We opened our fourth, fifth and sixth houses. We continued to keep our doors open to indigent women. Our residents were beginning to represent more of the entire spectrum. Some came from poverty and others upscale families. Each family lost in what was going on with their children. We showed them we could help. That they could have their loved one back.

Our residents are becoming younger and younger. The drugs are more lethal. Most dangerous of all is the combination of prescription drugs and alcohol. These are the two major killers. When combined, the effects and chances of death from either amplifies.

More often these young people come from families who care. They just have no idea where to turn to help their loved one. The disease is real whether it afflicts the young or the old. It sends each person afflicted into the same agonies of defeat. They need recovery programs. These give them a defense against drugs and alcohol. Some residents choose to stay a year. To build the kind of foundation that will last them a lifetime.

By 2011 over 5000 people have checked into the California Recovery Programs. We have an enormous alumni association. We have an annual party just for the alumni. We enjoy sober parties all year-long. These help embed the idea that there is fun to be had in sobriety. That we don’t need drugs or alcohol to be ‘a part of.’

Today we have 9 houses. We offer a complete continuum of care. Our program begins with detox, moving through a 90 day program, than sober living. We offer Living Sober for those who just want to live in a home with other sober people. We all come together for Sunday speaker meetings. Here many of our alumni celebrate birthdays, years of sobriety. These now range from 1 to 12 years and we are seeing people return with longer periods of time sober.
